FYI. Not needed now. After 3rd attempt, re-solder finally worked. I had another person look at it. He saw cracks. I am (happy) to report speedometer is working as designed.

Over the weekend I went to junkyard. I purchased one and it didn't work either. So I fixed original

thanks

it could be the ring gear in the tranny that the sensor rides off of broke......... thats what mine did.

hmm....the reason I was thinking it had something to do with the whole cluster issue is because it only works when the rest of my gauges are working...
I wonder how many miles are actually on my car LOL it's been stuck at 99k for quite some time now

when i bought mine three years ago i had the same prob. but the guy i got it from had an extra cluster so we rolled the miles to match and put it in. took all of about 5 mins to pull the old and put in the new. this was day 3 of ownership and have not had a prob since. my recommendation is if u can get a cheapy from the junkyard, do that.
