even though i know this i bought my car with a broken timing belt... replaced the water pump and the belt car runs good as new... know a few other people with neons have the same issue single and dual overhead cam.. engines both... so i dunno there is at least 4 times i know of that a timing belt breaking didn't screw anything else up on neons... maybe we were just lucky though... lol
