Default wont stay running runs VERY poorly SOLVED!!

1995 4 door neon auto tranny 220, KM

check engine light wont work (so no idea about codes) NOT the bulb

car backfires and sounds like a 2 stroke engine and wont run unless I push gas peddle in 1/2 way

now the EGR seloniod with the key ON engine OFF makes a rapid clicking sound (2nd one ive tried so not the seloniod)


I put a test light/probe on the neg battery post and clipped the end to the cable then i removed the cable and the light lit (this was neg side ONLY) key was on engine off

so this to me says i have a grounded out wire somewhere??

ive moved around as many wires as i could and no change
I also disconected several sensors and no change

any ideas and dose anyone have the factory wireing diagrams???

Well run it with all spark plug wires in, then remove one at a time and see if it bogs. If theres no change when removing certain ones then it could be the wires/coil pack for that cylinder(s).Also,autoparts stores can do free OBDII scans,it should still scan even with your messed up CEL.

unplug your EGR, your car will run without it.

it sounds like a bad coil pack. Every bad coil pack I've seen on neons does this same thing before being replaced.

well i metered my coil with a fluke meter today

primary i got
left side pin .o8 right side pin .06

secondary tower 1-4 11.80 tower 2-3 11.63

this is a 95 neon

those numbers tell you anything??

well tonight i played somemore

I found the problem i think

when i turn the key ON engine OFF the fuel pump does not run
when cranking or engine running the pump does run
BUT the fuel pump relay and the auto shutdown relay are clicking like mad when cranking or engine running

all fuses are good

I metered the fuel pump wires and NO power to it when key is on so its not the pump....

It could also be you got the wires backwards. The car backfiring is a usual cause of this.
Also, check the wires to your o2 sensors. I've had a wire w/ broken insulation do this to me. Check at the harnesses too...that's a common place for the insulation to break or strip back. That could be causing your relay's to click.

ok turns out it was main computer PCM in the engine


as soon as i plugged in a new one (from the bone yard) car started and ran perfectly


I got a real new looking one that was refurbished in 2006 part # R4874166 OR R4874156 hard to read was out of a 95 DOHC AT

mine is a 95 SOHC AT
