I just completed an install of an 02 auto trans into a 96. The torque converter that came with the 02 wouldn't spline correctly with the 02 trans that it came with so I inspected the 96 tc for metal shavings and visible damage and both were neglible to none. The 96 tc splined correctly with the 02 trans so I completed the install. The trans will now not engage in any gear. The shifter is correctly aligned as the reverse lights fire, and the linkage is connected properly and operational. The guy at the junkyard said that he drove the 02 into the field himself. Any clues on what's going on?

 

I do believe the 2nd gen ATXs have computers that control them. Might be your problem right there.
