Pull your fuel pump fuse under the hood instead. Does the same thing without cutting the power to everything.

A fuel issue would not cause the car to over heat, though I do believe there is a problem in the fuel delivery department. Had this happen on two neons, where the external filter developed some type of blockage. Replaced, and it was fine. Cost about $10-$15 at local parts store. This is located under the shield, just inside the passenger rear tire. Careful with the lines down there. Might be rusty.

As for overheating, when was the last service done to the coolant system? Air in the system could cause overheating, or a bad headgasket. Easier jobs are replacing the thermostat, bleeding air from the coolant system, checking for blockage. What color is your coolant right now? If not a bright green/orange, drain your coolant and replace. Also change your thermostat, and be sure to replace the thermostat gasket.

when my fuel pump died the symtomes were:
It would idle great, once I wanted to accelerate the car would sputter and choke. would start right back up and then sputter and die again.

I am going to say that it is the fuel pump for sure.

Ghost I did not read anything about the car overheating? did i miss something?

it only counts if they changed out the belt when they did the waterpump. I understand your on a budget but it is better to change the belt and the waterpump before the belt goes bad. otherwise, you will be getting a new head if the timing belt decides to snap, most of the time a few of the valves are still open and the pistons come to TDC and bend the valves.

Yes, you can siphon out the fuel and reuse it, and gas can become contamitanted if you do not clean the hose pipe or whatever you use to remove the fuel with. if you wipe clean the area where you plan to put the siphon and use approved fuel cans, you should avoid contamination.

I say use approved fuel cans because gas can eat through some plastics and leak.

Thank you all for the replies and advice. The Fuel pump and filter will be what I will start with. 24PSI pressure, all the symptoms point to that compared to what some of you other guys went through along with people with different cars. I think changing the o2 censor while im at it wouldnt hurt either. BTW the timing belt was changed with the water pump 2 yrs ago so I should be good there. My fingers toes and eyes are crossed.

Hi all, I replaced the PCV valve and its tubing today and took it for a drive to get it ready for a fuel pump/filter replacement and now my speed gauge is acting up. Im begining to believe this is electrical related//// why the hell would these sensors begin to fail all over the place? IF its an electrical problem it would mess with the fuel pump also by it being electrical correct?

Also forgot to mention that the radiator cooling fans are not kicking in either.

Thanks...
