Hello:

I've got a 98 neon, with the 2.5 L DOHC engine. Over the past year, it has started pinging (spark knock). I took it in and they told me that I needed a few things so I replaced them myself: plugs, wires, egr valve, O2 sensor (the one that's in the exhaust manifold). But, the pinging still happens. Now I'm wondering if the knock sensor could be bad? Does anybody have an idea of what could be the issue or what I can try? The pinging or spark knock seems to come and go, it doesn't happen all of the time. But it's only when the car is under load (going uphill, etc).

1. you don't have 2.5L

2. this used to happen to me after a new set of plug wires, what was happening is the metal coil inside the wire was not clasping right over the plug and would pop off the plug but looking at it you could never tell it wasn't fastened. It happened only under load for me also. i took a pair of needle nose and gently squeezed the inside clasp in the boot little by little and keep tryin it under load until it stopped
