Adding a Cruise Control to my car
This is my DD and as such, I sometimes drive long distances on the interstate. So, I found a junker that still has everything on it and most intriguing was cruise controls. My car is a 1995 SOHC all stock, original wiring harnesses, no mods, etc. So, I know from reading past posts that it is relatively easy to fix a cruise control that has stopped working, but what I want to know is how easy/difficult is it to ADD a cruise control to a Neon that does not and never has had cruise controls. The Haynes manual is pretty quiet about cruise controls.
I know you need (under the hood) the vacuum actuator, vacuum line, the cable to go to the throttle control, the control pods on the steering wheel, and a fuse added to the panel inside but......
Questions:
1) What else do I need (equipment wise)?
2) Where are the "brains" for this thing? Is there any control box or is this handled by the PCM in some manner, or is all the "brains" inside the vacuum actuator or in the steering wheel pods?
3) Is the steering column pre-wired to include cruise controls, or will I have to add the wiring from the pods to the fuse panel and beyond?
4) Do I have to add any wires under the hood? See Question 3 above as the wires have to come and go somewhere eh?
If anyone has done this, I would appreciate the input before I even try to do something like this, as I can see where it might be a major mess to get into.

What the question really is now is do I have the pre-wired car or not. If I do, then it is relatively easy - just get the junker parts and go for it.
If I do not, then I have to create my own wiring kit using the connectors and wires from the original car and add it. Not as easy, but still not hard.
I think I'll go for it.

Well, I examined my car, and found that I am not one of the fortunate ones for whom the car came pre-wired for cruise controls. Because of that and the fact that it will take far more time then I initally thought, I am going to have to delay this.
This is going to be a after the new year project for me. My first task will be to go to the junkyard and make sure I get all the parts. My mission will then be to document what I bought and what I do to git r done. Rats, I was hoping for a quick surgical strike, but oh well.
