the INDY intake manifold leaves much to be desired. the plenum is too big, the ports for the runners dont match up like they should..

i mean, the $500 INDY intake manifold made a few hp over a stock ported and polished intake manifold in the upper rpm, but LOST power down below. ill have to dig up the dyno comparison on that.

Well on allpar.com it makes the potent recipe for the N/A high compression 2.0 that tells you to add the indy intake manifold with a lot more upgrades 1st... all in all id rather have it for top end then low rpm power band. Maybe if i wanted better 1/4 mile times id go with another for the lows. Please find something on those numbers and post them id be interested in seeing how well the intake manifold performed in 3-6500 rpm revs... or even redlined conditions.

wanna see a dyno comparison? sure. ported stock dohc vs indy vs box-style manifold comparison comin right up

again, for this, big thanks goes out to KeithRT for taking the time and money to actually compare all this on the dyno.

heres the dyno pic:
blue- stock ported intake manifold (gasket matched only!)
green- blackdog box-style manifold
red - indy intake manifold

as you can see, the INDY really doesnt show the gains to make it worth it, unless you rev to or past 8k rpm. the box-style intake manifold completely owns it.

keep in mind, that was on a mild 2.4.. but it still shows the differences in the intake manifolds.

Any nitrous'd dyno comparisons? Ive noticed that with the denser oxidization that the INDY was more common for the racers choice of use.... How bout turbo apps? Im curious to see cuz i might just do a 55 mm bore manifold instead... Thankz for researching..

i havent seen a dyno comparison yet, but ive heard from several people that the INDY isnt really a good choice for boosted neons either.

the best bet for a boosted neon, would be a custom tube-style intake manifold.

pulling the head is a lot easier on a sohc then a dohc.

yup. i can do a complete sohc hg swap in about 4 hours, while the dohc seems to take me a bit longer at 6-8 depending on what problems i run into.
