oil light
i have a 07 neon. the oil light seems to come on after driving the car for some time.it slowwly lights up then stays on if i rev the car it will go out for a bit i had a cooling problem thought that was the problem changed the thermastat and relay.but still have this red light problem. can anyone give me some info to solving this problem thanks and yes the oil is at the right level
Throwing any codes? Well the oil comes on when your oil pressure drops below a certain level...I don't recall what psi that is...but its a low number. If you rev your car your oil pressure will increase....well it should. Why your light is on when you have the correct amount of oil in the car is beyond me. Bad sensor maybe? I'd check your codes first, and also double check your oil level as well. Let the car sit for awhile so all the oil drains to the bottom and then check it. You might be low.
Pull your codes...it will throw a code if your sensor is bad. Mine is throwing the oil sensor code right now. P0522. Check that...if that comes up then there is your problem.
yes that was an 97 opps sorry for the screw up lol. does that red light on the dash have anyhting to do with the cooling to

honestly, it might be a bad ground somewhere also. I installed an oil pressure guage, but routed a wire too close to the header, the insulation melted, and it grounded out, thus setting off the low oil light. Just a thought, but it probably IS a bad sensor.
I don't really want to scare you but I disagree with the others somewhat. I suppose it could potentially be abad sensor but the fact that it only happens once the engine is warm and goes away if you rev the engine leads me to believe that your sensor is ok. Your engine, however may be far from it, the symptoms you describe (assuming the sensor is good) sound like classic worn oil pump or crank bearings to me. I don't know the exact PSI that triggers the light either but it is very low. As your engine heats up the internal clearances get larger, the oil gets thinner and either; a)the pump has too much "leak-by" to maintain pressure or b)too much oil flows through the crank to build adequate pressure. So I would get my hands on an oil pressure gauge and check the actual pressure then go from there, continuing to drive it this way could lead to serious engine damage. I have personally seen a nice '97 DOHC 5spd get junked from this.
