Is the Check Engine Light coming on at all?

Most common causes are a faulty Throttle Position Sensor, Crankshaft Position Sensor, or the wiring for those. Sometimes a busted cat could do it, a few other sensors could do it, clogged air filter, clogged or faulty injectors, clogged fuel filter (aluminum tank models), failing fuel pump, etc.

the throttle position sensor is located directly on the throttle body...

heres a how-to on removing the 1g throttle body:
http://www.neonspeed.com/howto/howto..._tbremoval.htm

when removing the TPS (throttle position sensor) please be very careful, as those screws that hold it on have been known to break. you can either use a star-bit, or a regular socket, i believe the socket size is 8mm.. i prefer to use the socket, havent had a single screw snap on me yet that way.

It may not be the TPS itself though. Check the wires going to it to make sure they aren't rubbing up against something sharp (like the valve cover...). I went through 4 TPS's before finding my short.

Best of luck!
