Bedplate reseal
Is there any way to reseal the bedplate with the engine in the car?
If so do you have to remove the oil pump? or can you slide it in between everything? anyone ever try it?

To reseal the bedplate, you will not only have to remove the oil pump AND the crankshaft (which means that the tranny will have to be removed and/ or disconnected) AND the pistons will have to be disconnected and/or removed.
The bedplate contains the main bearings that hold the crank, so yeah, you pretty much have to yank the whole thing apart anyway. Really, if this is what you need to do, you would be far better off not to even try, and in the end, you will create more work then not.
It is really not that hard to pull the motor and tranny as a pair and put it back. I have done it both ways, just the motor and both together, and I prefer together.
FYI and JMTCW
Thanks, I done it Saturday took 5 hours, slid trans back about 1/4 inch did not take oil pump off or remove crank, (I just rebuilt it and had an oil leak thanks to the Haynes manual I did not put sealer where I should have,) So its back on the road now and no leaks. Was not near as bad as I thought. Again Thanks.
Wow. Well if I am wrong then I am wrong. Good job. How did you keep the bearings in place and keep the bedplate from falling on you while you were putting the anarobic sealant on? Did you just drop it down an inch or so and then squirt the sealant in where you could? Just curious.

I put a jack under the front pulley and sling with washers on the ends, on the top 2 engine to trans. bolts. I have solid mounts and bobble struts that I made so only taking the one mount off the engine did not move much, backed the trans bolts out 1/2 inch and slid trans. back just enough to clear dowel in trans.( oh yea a little wooden shim between bottom of flywheel and trans. case) Crank, pistons and upper mains stayed in. Dropped bedplate out and resealed. Had to be real careful going back in and watch oil pump O-ring.

Yeah I forgot about the fact that the pistons keeping the crank in place which keeps the top main bearings in place. That and putting the jack under the front pulley. Nice to know it can be done.
