96 Neon Hard To Fill Gas Tank/ Nozzle Keeps Shutting Off
1996 Neon Base SOHC
Tried to fill tank with gas
Nozzle at gas station pump kept shutting off
Is the fuel vent hose clogged?
Or is it something else?
Thanks!

Some of the newest pumps can put out 7 gallons a minute. Murphy Gas stations - usually located at Wal-marts - are the best examples of this.
That is sometimes too much, too fast for the Neon to handle, and all gas pumps are designed to kick off if the feedback pressure rises enough. It has happened to me a couple of times and each time, I just reset the pump to go at 3/4 speed instead.
To know if this is the problem, just try pumping at half-speed to start with and slowly working your way up to maximum. If it kicks off again, then see if it will work at 3/4. If it does, then just remember the next time you get to one of these pumps.

WHAT?
I have yet to see one pump that fast!!! Not doubting you, would just love to see one. Fill up in under 2 minutes would be sweet.

The pump at the local wal-mart Murphy station says 7 gallons a minute - fastest pump in town guaranteed. When I try to fill up there, it almost always clicks off as it just cannot take it that fast - so good luck with that. I'll try to take a picture of it and post it later.
