Default water pump

i have a 97 neon and the water pump just went out...i looked into how to fix it myself but does any body know how much it will cost to take it to a mech. i could do it but i dont have the time.

for a job like that to take to a mechanic is around 300+USD in that time I would also replace the timing belt.

I think that is about right. I took my 1988 Lebaron into the dealer with my own new water pump and it cost me $165 just for the labor and the Neon is much more laborous than a Lebaron is and as long as you're going to pay for the labor put the new timing belt in and have peace of mind for another 50,000 miles have them return the parts and if the belt is good save iot for a spare. But you'll feel better knowing you shouldn't have to worry about it going out for a while. I'm not sure but if it goes other things may be messed up when that happens and if so it will be much more of an expense than the new timing belt will be.

yeah so i took a look into it and the engine is locked up the shafts bent and its going to cost me around $1200 for it all fixed. so know im trying to decide if the cars worth fixing. i might just look for a used engine and do a change and use the one i have for parts. anybody have any ideas

you can buy a new neon for that much. and then part out the bad one. or a whole new motor.
