Default Whining noise during sharp turns with A/C on??

I decided to get out the 97 Dodge SOHC Neon this weekend. It was my first car I got as a freshmen in high school in 1997. Only has 96K on it and I just now use it as a spare car and I keep it for sentimental reasons. The A/C did not work in it so I decided I would get a can of freon and charge it up and see what happens. Now it has cold A/C again but when I took it for a drive it makes a loud whining noise when I make sharp turns and the power steering seems to go off and on during the sharp turns. But if I turn the A/C off no problem making sharp turns a all. What is going on?

Thanks for any help!

R.W.

I really dont know what is happening in this situation. But i do know when you turn the car it puts more pressure on the belt, making it make a whining noise. It would be worse on a dry or worn belt, or when the belt is cold. When the belt it warm it is more flexible. Maybe the Ac being on is putting more pressure on the belt? i hope i helped at all good luck!

Make sure the A/C P/S belt is properly tensioned and the drive side isn't glazed.

also make sure your system is not over charged. and of course tighten the belt. I think it is a 15 mm wrench and there are 2 hiding down there.
