1999 Neon Brake noises
1999 Dodge Neon, SOHC, 2.0 ltr.
Earlier this week, when driving to work in the morning, I would hear a rattling or clunking sound when applying my brakes. When leaving work in the afternoon, I wouldn't hear anything. A short while ago, I drove my car to a store in town, and there was no sound. As soon as I pulled out of the parking lot & put my foot on the brake, I heard the noise again, but way louder, and loud enough to make me rather nervous driving it. The brakes were working, but the sound was much louder. After parking in my drive way, I checked the reservoir that holds the brake fluid, and it was down a little. But not a lot to make a difference. I put more Dot3 brake fluid in it. It is still at the same level, but I haven't tried driving it again yet. I was wondering what the problem may be. The car was inspected this April, but of course that was 6 months ago.

I would think that your pads need changing and your rotors need either to be turned or replaced. if you wait to long your rotors will definatly need to be replaced. and some food for thought. sometims when the calipers get "hung up" or stuck it is because the rubber brake hoses break down from the inside out.

You were right, but it was worse. The calipers, rotors, brake pads, all had to be replaced, along with a right front brake hose. Parts and labor brought the grand total to $366.38. Big bill, but if you want to drive your car, you have to have these repairs. This was the 1st major repair job that I have had with this car. Neon's are great on gas, so I always save money that way. Thanks for the reply.
