new or rebuilt engine
My engine in my car is shot so ive decided to get a new or rebuilt engine. I need to find a place in texas that sells new or rebuilt engines so i wont have to pay too much for shipping. Im probably going to get a new tranny soon. I was wondering how hard it is to change to manual or would it just be easier to keep the auto. Any help is greatly greatly appreciated. thanx alot
Used engines from a salvage yard (www.car-parts.com) will run $200-500 in working order. A rebuild (itty bitty warranty) will run $1000+. A remanufactured (Jasper), will run closer to $2k, but come with a hefty warranty (i.e. 5 years, 75,000 miles). Up to you really. Personally, I don't think I'd go through a dozen junkyard engines in 5 years. I went the Jasper route when I didn't know better...
Manual trannies from a yard will run about the same. You'll have to pick up things like a clutch, shifter, cables, pedals, clutch pedal position switch, etc. Swapping from atx to mtx isn't difficult, or costly for that matter. Gains are definitely worth it.
Best of luck!

D00d going the salvege route can get you a warranty as well I bought a 3.5 longblock for 1350 shipped w/ 90 day warranty if it dont blow in 90 days it prolly wont for a while. Usually a Nissan Longblock costs in the region of $2500. Heck if u wanna buy a motor ill sell u my DOHC 2.0 r/t Motor just left over from my car wreck w/ 60000 miles for 800 dollars gaurantee it will work but I live in INDIANA so shipping might not be nice.
swaping trannys isn't hard but it does take some time. You gotta get the tranny, clutch, cables....etc. i would stay with the auto... but if you really want a standard it would probably be worth it. You could always look for a neon that already has a 5 speed in it. I would go with a new engine... just dont drive it hard
