I was driving to work this morning and my speedo started to bounce around. I figured it was the VSS or the solders on the back of the cluster. On my way home, it started goin crazy, I was at a dead stop and the speedo was jumping up to 40-50 MPH. Twice it hit 120 for a second and the motor cut out. And as soon as it started now its fine and not doing anything weird. Any ideas?

possible short in the wire from vehicle speed sensor? or a vss that is going bad? thats my only guess, never had that problem .

 

I'm not sure why that would kill the motor though??? Not sure what that could be.

 

I know what that is, its the cut out at 120 mph. Our cars have a speed limiter. When the spedo spikes to 120, the motor cuts out momentarily.

 

What year car ? auto or standard? cuz my 95 neon just slips out of 5th at 200 kmpm

 

98 MTX. What do you mena it just slips out of gear?

 

instead of being full engaged in fifth gear it just slips back about 1 inch and is still in fifth but not engaged the motor will rev up like it is in neutral, motor wont shut off or die out. just let speed come back under 200kmph shove clutch little tap up to shifter release clutch and good to go again.
