Default spark plug popped out.

i recently replaced my head gasket and it came out great. I drove about 150 miles on it, and a spark plug popped out while the car was running. i was just backin up and it started making this popping sound which ill assume was the combustion... Then i pulled on one of the spark plug tubes that looked stuck out, and the plug came right out with it. I tried to put it back in, but it wont go back in. My theory is that it was cross threaded, and then it popped out because of that and the pressure. Now i dont know how im going to get it back in... Is it possible to tap and die the head while its still attached? what should i do. The threads on the plug are perfect so its def. the threads in the head...

Default RE: spark plug popped out.

wow.... no replies. "hello, 911... yes id like to report a dead forum."

anyway i fixed the problem, so just in case any of you have the same problem...

I tapped the head and put something similar to a heli coil in there, only it wasnt a coil it was a sleeve looking thing with threads on the inside to fit the plug, and on the outside to fit the wider tap. They sell them at most auto parts store, but the one at napa doesnt work in neons because the hex head on the tap that comes with it is 19 mm, and the 19mm socket wont fit in the tubes. so the one at pep boys worked. then i ran a magnet down into the cylinder a few times and got all the metal **** out.

if you are thinking about doing this and you seriously value the life of your car, id recommend pulling the head off before doing this. its almost impossible to clean out every single metal shaving, and its likely they will scar the walls of the cylinder and oil will leak into it. For now it actually runs like new, so im praying i got it all out. The only reason i tapped it with the head on is because i just got done changing the head gasket, and if i have to take the head off the car one more time, its not even worth it, id just rather buy another car or get a whole new engine. I just have this car long enough for me to go buy another nissan 240 sx because i dont really like front wheel drive cars. But hearing you guys post, ive been thinking about hooking up this neon with another engine and build it right... while its out of the car. I was thinkin about the 2.4 litre one... ive never seen a neon with the 2.4, but it seems like itd be a good start.
