Default 95 neon problem

So, I have a 95 neon and it is on the fritz! You have to keep the gas tank FULL if you get down under 3/4 of a tank it "runs out of gas" Put some gas into it and your on your way then Booom starts putting again and dies and repeat process over and over and ov.... well you get the point. I have no clue what to do to it. Each time you never put more then 3gal into it to fill it.

climb under the car and look at the gastank is it smashed up, i know i have a small dent in the bottom of mine and it was really easy to get, maybe that is your problem. a smashed tank affecting the flow of gasoline to the fuel pump.

Well the gas tank is ok. Damn, that would have been too easy! Thank you.

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? Supposed to be every 35k miles. If it's clogged, the pump is trying super hard to make fuel flow, which causes cavitation at the pump suction, so it eventually air binds. Sucks when it happens at 2:00 a.m., 600 miles from home in the middle of nowhere Virginia... with the wife and 2 kids... on a holiday weekend...

Option B would be the fuel pump itself. Don't waste your money on a factory replacement, get the 255 lph version from Howell Automotive (or other sites) for $100 or so - well under half what you'd pay for a stocker from the dealer or Autozone. No additional modifications needed, will not improve gas mileage or performance, etc....

Might also try a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. I've never used it, and my original injectors are kicking fine after 236k miles. But it's your $10.

Best of luck!
