Default Error Code 44

Did the key dance today and found Error codes 12, 44, 55. I know about the 1st and last codes... but AutoZone, Advanced Auto, and the dealer couldn't tell me a thing about Code 44. Error Code 44 reads: Battery Temp Sensor Volts Out of Range. Any ideas???

The most likely senario is that your battery temp sensor (located in the battery box) is either cracked and broken, or the wires/connector to the sensor is cracked/corroded and not making good contact or is shorting out.

A new sensor is about $11.

Went to Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, and the Dodge dealer and NO ONE can get the part. So I looked under the hood to find this thing and see what it would take to get one out of a car at the JY. Come to find out this stupid thing wasn't even plugged in!!! Connecter was a little corroded so I used some De-Ox-It on it to clean it up and plugged it in and TADA! Error code went away and dash light went off.

Glad you did not need a new one but if you did, you can find one at rockauto.com. I selected the 1998 Dodge Neon SOHC but the part is the same for most models (except 1995 with different connector/pins).

Battery Temperature Sensor - Standard Motor Products - Part # TS405 - #5269742 = $11.42.
