Default Reliability?

Alright, I thought I'd ask this before I ever got my feet wet, I'm not looking to see how much power my car could make but I have a couple of questions for the guys with some experience building all-motor Neons. I'd like to build my own all-motor Neon, when I get enough money. I want to do it right the first time, right from the start.

Whats the best to build, for power and reliability? A SOHC or a DOHC. I know that the SOHC responds well to mods, but is the DOHC more reliable? If I build an all-motor car, am I going to be plauged with reliability issues forever, or can it be done right?

Thanks for any help, and any tips or pointers would really be appreciated.

Id say the DOHC is as reliable as the SOHC and there is stronger aftermark support for em...if you want all motor class car your gonna want the DOHC... No nos no turbo? Then get docs not socs.

Without researching this i think the SOHC is more reliable than the Duel based on one thing, it doesn't have to line up with another cam.

Reliability is the same for the most part. The DOHC has much bigger cams available, which puts tons of stress on the timing belt parts. If a SOHC had a cam that big, it would have reliability issues as well. SOHC's are actually more likely to skip a tooth than a DOHC.

You'll be able to get more out of the DOHC.
