Default Over heating!!!!

Hi everyone...The problem I am having is with a 1996 SOHC. The car runs fine on the freeway, but in the city or idle it will over heat and boil out the over floew tank. I figured that it was a thermostat and changed that....not it though....so then went and change the coolant temp sensor on the drivers side of the engine block....still did it!!! Looking a lillte closer and find out the fan isnt turning on so changed the fan relay but nothing still...hook up power directly to the fan and it works though....ANY IDEAS?????? oh ya also the temp gage in the dash never shows more the normal even when it is boiling.....please help

Hey, Ezhd232, I had rad. relay problems with my 97 Dohc. If highrevr/tflea is talking about the rad. relay (which I think he is) it is located right infront of your front pass wheel and should be clipped to the inside of the motor wall. It is a little black box (maybe 3/4 of and inch by 1 1/2 inches) and should have what look like 4 small square openings. It takes some muscle to get the chrismas tree bracket free, but just pull the whole relay with some muscle and it should pop out. It has a little red clip that has a smaller red clip inside it. Press in the tiny red inner clip and slide the clip all the way over, but not out. Then press down the thumb clip and pull hard.
Reverse the steps to put a new one in.

It may seem involved, but you can do it in less then 30 seconds (with practice [sm=rolleyes.gif] as I have been forced to do). It would be easier to get your car up on ramps, or safely on jack stands, but I was able to get under my stock front bumper with my fat head to do this no prob, just make sure the pavement isn't to hot.
