Default Shifter issues

So, today I was driving and went to put it in third gear and then the clutch seemed to have lost it for me. the car is now stuck in 3rd, and the clutch will only move up and down and not side to side. I'm just wondering for the most part what you guys think this is and is it going to cost me a ton of money? I'm a student and don't have a ton of cash on hand. Any help would be nice guys, thanks.

1999 Neon expresso.

Edit: After doing extensive research it looks like the cable is the likely senario. I'm just trying to see the cost on something like that.

Check the bushings above the transmission and the shifter bushings. They are cheap and wear out. Cheap to replace.
