My 95' Neon dies at all stops and hickups frequently while driving it received 8 error codes one being the camshaft sensor the auto zone guy told me that replacing the camshaft sensor would fix the dying and hickup problem, is this true? When you replaced yours did it work better?

Very Lost

Re: The camshaft sensor oil leak. If it’s the same as the 95 SOHC Neon there is an "o" ring seal behind it that you may have to replace. I have also seen the sensor case cracked and leaking. Be careful not to over torque the bolts as theyare small and in aluminum.

Michele - Since your caris actually logging error codes (w/ CEL illumination), I think your situation is a little different.
If yours is like mine, you can read the codes yourself using the key-click method. Turn the Ignition On-off On-Off On in a 5 second period, and leave the ignition on (but do not start the engine, or kick the starter during this.) After a few seconds, the Check Engine light will clear, and then begin flashing two digit codes (blink (pause) blink-blink (long-pause) is a code "12" for example.) You should always get a code "55" at the end to signal end of messages. If you miss a code the first time, just do it again (it may even repeat by itself after a long pause - I don't remember.) Anyhow, this process does not clear the codes. If you collect these codes and post them here, I'm sure the DF community can give you the proper interpretation and advise!

As far as mine goes - I actually didn't replace my Cam Position Sensor. Mine hasn't logged any codes at all, or illuminated the CEL (except when I unplugged the sensor) so I'm reluctant to go nuts replacing parts... yet. (I was also discouraged by the wire splicing necessary to connect the aftermarket Cam Position Sensor, and I lacked the correct 'offset' style 10mm wrench I needed to get that 4th bolt removed - them Mopar guys obscured thislast bolt behind some plumbing for the coolant system which makes it kind of tricky to get to on my Stratus.)

My rough-start/engine-missproblem is intermittent, but it repeated yesterday. Again, it was cold (15 deg F), and it started up shaking the car and making that 'whomp-whomp' surging sound. I turned it off and restarted it several times without any change. (I doesn't seem to stall out - although seemed close to stall after a rev-up.) I went ahead and drove it home, and it eventually smoothed out after about 8-10 minutes of around-town driving. Again, the bumping and missing was noticeable while maintaining 40mph speed@ 2200rpm. Mine's a 5 Spd manual, so I think the engine missis more noticeablethrough the drive-train than would be with an automatic - I don't know...

This time, I made sure my garage-door remote was out of the way, and I confirmed that the CEL was NOT illuminated. (Whatever is causing this problem is 'invisible' to the computer - go figure!) Any ideas folks? Maybe I'm stuck guessing until this problem becomes more repeatable. I will note that I had a full tank of gas, but I don't think that is necessarily relevant.

YES ! It is noticeable , my girlfriend's '95 A/T base neon do the same problem as yours when driving on the freeway. Engine starts real bad and when rev'd up, tend to die (Lastly i heard a clicking noise coming from the hood when the car was at rough idle.) You also said your car did this when cold, I begin to think there is a connection, since i live in Québec, tempratures these days are around -30 celciusand the car look like it wanna fall appart. In fact it did misfire/rough start everyday this week even 2 or three times a day. One thing i noticed, is that the problem generally appears AFTER braking, like on a stop or a red light[:@] or uphill when re-acelerating ??!!!. Could it be in the fuel delivery, there is a fuel pressure regulator inline with the fuel pump in the tank on '95 models.
