Cam Timing Info???
Hey, can someone explain to me how to read cam timing degrees. I know you line it up with TDC and all and I think i know how but i'm not sure. Don't you measure it as a 180 degree advance timing and 180 degrees retard timing? I know nobody adjusts it that high but isn't that how you measure it?
Cam timing is read as you stated with 'x' degrees before top dead centre BTDC and 'x' degress after top dead centre 'ATDC'. when looking at timing marks for example when doing a timing belt, there are normally marks indicated on the pulleys that align with each other. Some cars have a mark on the crankshaft damper and a few marks on the timing cover indicating how many degress before and after. Hope this makes a bit of sense to ya.
I'm not quite sure what you are after mate , and the reference to AEM cam gears is not something i have heard of in the UK. Are you refering to a modified cam with the ability to alter its position through a vernier measurement. ie, the cam pulley stays still while you adjust the cam itself within the pulley?? we call them vernier pulleys over here!!!!
