Yep it is the timing belt. Isnt moving at all while cranking the engine. FML.

my brother had an avenger that the belt broke on but he was lucky and it didnt damage the top end, try it and find out, might still be good. gotta get a new belt if you are gonna replace top end anyway, just make sure the cams and crank are set right before you turn the key

If he has a 2.4, then that's why he was ok. 2.0's just don't have the room.

hYeah unfortunately it is the 2.0... Not only is the belt gone but the crankshaft gear was also cracked. Probably why the belt shredded. I am having a local shop do the work since living in the city i dont really have a place do it myself. The side of the street isnt safe around here hehe. Crossing my fingers the top end isnt Eff'ed up. But am not holding my breath either..
