Default 95 Neon - Alternator belt jumping off

Hello everyone...this is my first post to the forum.

I have a 1995 Dodge Neon SOHC. Recently, the car was having some problems (front lower engine mount went out, sway bar links, and alternator and power steering belts.) I got all the problems fixed, and put new belts on.

Then, I was driving around, and I heard a loud squeal, then a dull constant squeel. The alternator belt had jumped slightly of the crank pulley (towards the engine), and the power steering belt flipped off. Thinking that my AC unit had ceased up, I got a smaller belt and put it on. That fixed the power steering belt, but the alternator belt keeps jumping off.

Thinking that maybe the alternator was starting to go bad, I took it in for warranty...since I got it about 6 months ago. Installed it, and the belt still jumps slightly towards the engine on the crank pulley.

When putting on the belts, I made sure the tension was right. It looks like the alternator is slightly tilted.

What should I do? Someone I know thinks that a bushing might be missing on the alternator adjustment bolt...but I see nothing in my repair books on one being there.

Have you taken a long straightedge and made sure they line up OK?

There are 3 nuts/bolts on the alternator of any concern for adjustment (as I'm sure you know). The pivot point, the locking point, and the adjuster bolt that points toward the firewall. The adjuster bolt should have no effect on pulley alignment. The other 2 are supposed to line up once tightened down on the alternator mount. There are no bushings that would affect this.

You might take a good look at the mount itself and make sure it's seated correctly and doesn't appear bent. There's always the chance that either the alt pulley or the crank pulley is bent, cracked, etc.

Best of luck!

make sure the crank pulley is fully installed. also if crank bolt is broken invest is a left handed drill bit extracter set. with the left handed bit you will start drilling and bolt will come out on bit. have seen this 3 or 4 times.
