Need some horsepower ideas
Hey All!
I've got a 1995 Dodge Neon with 190k miles and am looking for ways to get some horsepower without getting a turbocharger. I am also wanting to go as cheap as possible. I have tried a resistor to advance my timing at the IAT sensor and i didn't really notice much of a change, even with premium fuel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's your first two moves, then look into an Underdrive Pulley. From there, youre best bet for cheap HP is a turbo. Going N/A is mad expensive.
Oh yea, and you can toss that resistor. That won't do anything for you. And unless it's an R/T, don't run premium, you'll screw your car up like that. Run 87 and you'll be just fine. Any octane higher than that and you're liable to mess it up.

I am just a 16 year old senior in high school working at McDonalds so I need my car. Its not the original engine in it, i would say it has a few less thousand miles on it, but i'm not exactly sure. I gotta work with what i got, or just buy me something like a stealth or avenger.
Your compression on your car is like 50% less then it should be my now so im guesing that you have umm about 70hp right now so it is a wast of time to do anything...save up some money, part your engine out...and goto your local junk yark and find a DOHC engine with under 100k and put it in and your good to go.....Then save some money and turbo it!!!

How do you figure 50% compression? My static compression numbers were all well within spec back when I had 160k miles on the original engine. This motor is coming up on 130k miles and I guarantee I have more than 70 HP
hahaha true true...its was kinda a joke but yeah...well when i first had my neon it have like 130k on the stock engine and then i want to build it up so i put a engine in it with 45k for about 3 months before i built it and it ran soo much nicer....think it in the way of do you think your grandpa can run as good as you. No...he can still run but not as well...Maybe you wont loss that much compression, not even close but as soon as you start doing things to it, it is just going to go down hill!
I think its still got plenty of horsepower, i hit 115 few weeks ago. But i cant remember if i said, its not the original engine. When my uncle had the car the timing belt broke and well, everything went downhill from there. He tried 5 different engines and finally the 5th one worked. Im not exactly sure of the miles on it, but everything else has 190k on it.
