Engine runs - no gauges

Hi everyone,
My 1995 Neon had a bad crank sensor and the wiring to the sensor was damaged. Fixed all that, put in a new battery. Turned the key, got all my dash lights, car started no problem. Noticed that the battery light was on so I figured the alternator since battery is new. Next day, I turn the key but no dash instruments working, no CEL, no brake light. The car started, but none of the gauges are working. The engine is running but I don't think the car knows it's turned on. Could this be low battery or ignition switch?

Let me be clear, I understand cars pretty good and I am strong in wiring. From what I have seen thus far, it's almost like the engine system checks the needed sensors to crank the car and send power to the coil and fuel pump but whatever connects engine signals to the dash is not happening. It makes me wonder how the car can be charging if the system is not on.
