1995 possible wheel upgrade - hub info
I have a 1995 Dodge Neon with the original 4x100 wheels. Front disc, Rear drum. I need to replace the hub bearings, and quite frankly, it costs LESS to replace the hub and bearing on a 5x100 neon then a 4x100 neon. I understand why as neons only used 4 lugs for 95 and part of 96 - supply and demand.
I could just replace the bearings, but by the time I buy the bearing and have someone press the old bearings out and press the new ones in, I will have just as much into it as just changing the whole thing. I don't have the equipment to do it myself.
13" tires are starting to get relatively rare and awfully EXPENSIVE at local shops (limited available stock), so I have had to buy online just to keep the price reasonable.
If I switch to the 5 lug hubs, I can go with the OEM 14" tires (15"?) and I can get those rims easy! They are a LOT of them out there. A lot more then the 4x100 13's and cheaper too.
So here are my questions to those of you who have done this already:
1) Can I buy the following (as an example):
Moog Front Hub kit 5 lug (Advance Part No. 518512)
Moog Rear Hub kit 5 lug (Advance Part No. 512023)
instead of:
Moog Front Hub kit 4 lug (Advance Part No. 518511)
Moog Rear Hub kit 4 lug (Advance Part No. 512021)
and just put them on?
2) Do I have to modify anything else - brakes (front/rear), linkages, lug nuts, etc?
3) If I go with OEM 14" tires on 14" OEM rims (15?), will my speedo be off? I don't think so as it is a function of the VSS on the tranny, but just want to be sure.
4) Any changes required to steering controls? tie-rod ends, bushings, ball joints, etc?
5) Any diff between 1st gen and 2nd gen neon 5 lug rims? Any problems using 15" rims/tires for a 1995 model instead of 14"'s?
6) Any gotchas I need to be concerned with - backspacing, etc.?
I can afford to do this if all I have to buy are rims and hubs. Anything else and it just isn't worth it. I can get both of the above at my local JY.

I don't know if the brake setups are the same from a 4 lug to a 5 lug. So I would double check all parts, brakes rotors and so on to verify part numbers. Might as well do a rear disc conversion while you are at it
