Anytime I accelerate it sounds like im driving a go-kart. Do I need a new muffler or is it something else? Im not very car savvy so be gentle...Thanks!

 

well, if the engine runs smooth then yeah its an exhaust problem if not then your not running on all cylinders

 

Can you tell if its coming from the engine bay or under the car? Maybe open the hood and rev it and have someone listen. If its coming from the engine bay, you may have an ERG block off plate leak. If its from other the car its most likely an exhaust leak? Do you smell exhaust?

 

Im pretty sure its coming from the back. So thats good news right?

 

That's odd...I'm TRYING to get mine to sound like a gokart. Need a new muffler? I'm cutting mine off.

 

Its the exhaust. Jack the car up and look for holes.

 

So I had an 86 civic and once the timing belt blew and took out cylinder 1 (compression was Zero) thats when it sounded like a go kart

 

mine sounded like that for a while, then i got fed up and bought a new muffler, it seemed to fix the problem.... but i noticed not to long ago that there is a noise coming from the engine when im accelerating that almost sounds like a turbo spooling up...but i dont have a turbo, am i just crazy or is there somehting wrong???
