Turbo is the only way to go for good cheap power. Back in the day I built a sohc engine with the following parts to run a 14.2. A turbo on the car would of been cheaper and faster.
DOHC pistons
AFX ECU
95 cam
Long tube header
Indy intake manifold with no 90 degree
Cold air intake
Unorthodox underdrive pulley
a/c, and power steering delete
And poly bushings and mounts
Bugger bushings
EGR delete
2.5" exhaust no cat
Coil overs
Sway bars
Dont rev the sohc past 7,400 imo.

The so called "racing chips" on ebay are a resistor inline with the map that changes signal to the ecu. Its tricks it to run leaner. Lean may give u a few more hp but will eat your motor. if you have a dohc a srt-4 turbo will bolt right up. Use a downpipe from a 00+ neon and it will bolt right up to your exhaust. If you have a single cam I would swap it for a dohc head and use the srt-4 turbo. The only real "chip" that works will be an AFX computer or Mopar computer. I have used both and hands down I wont drive my car without one. If you have a turbo you can NOT use an aftermarket ecu because they advance timing for N/A motors, so it will not work with a turbo. Search my old threads I did a turbo write up a few years back. Lets say your car puts on about 100whp. Adding on a bunch of bolt ons you will be lucky to see 120whp. you will move from a 15.6 to a 15.4 in the 1/4 mile. or you can turbo it for under $1500 and have around 200whp and drive it everyday with no issues. Then you can shoot for low 14's and high 13's at the strip.

As long as you tune it right and don't overdo it, the motor should be good. Before boosting with Nitrous or a turbo, you need to make sure your compression is good across the board.
