big changeover questions
I'm wondering if anyone knows everything that's needed to tranfer a Dodge viper engine over to a 98 Dodge neon. Other than a lot of money and time. I know it can be done, saw then end of it on speedvision once(didn't get to see enough to really know whats needed or done) but at that time I had neither a neon nor an engine. I do know you have to change the trans, brakes and suspension and junk but what I need to know is what else I need or how much cutting and junk. Any help towards this would be appreciated. I assume it's obvious as to why I would want to do some extremely odd thing like this.
This is one of those "if you have to ask, you'll never know" type of questions...
Getting the engine (and tranny) to fit in the Neon engine bay - you'll have to completely cut off the front end, make a tubular chassis, move the firewall back, and figure out how to mount the engine and suspension components.
Once the engine and tranny are in you'll have to cut up the floorpan to make room for the custom axle to fit, as well as routing for exhaust piping, fuel lines, etc.
You'll have to do more work in the rear to get whatever rear end you plan on fitting in there.
Then there's engine management (not too hard, Megasquirt should do fine), fuel cell placement, etc. Little stuff...
For all the trouble, there are plenty of turbo Neons in full street trim that have no problem smacking down a Viper. Your time/money though...
Best of luck!
