On average, how long should a neon engine last (miles)... first gen, second gen, sohc, dohc?

any answers will help out alot... thanks in advance

Well taken care of anywhere between 200,000 and 300,000. That is very dependent on maintaince, driving style, mods, and a lot of other things.

 

My 1st engine had 135k on it with plenty of life left, until the car got stolen... I kept it going to the 165k mark, then put in another engine with 52k on it. That engine is now pushing the 125k mark, just passed emissions with flying colors, strong as ever, great compression, zero complaints. Unfortunately, it will probably go away in the next year or so to make room for a 3rd engine, just because it's easier to build up a spare and swap the whole thing in...

I have no doubts that 500k+ is possible with just routine maintenance. There's a delivery driver in NYC that had made it that far last I heard, think he only changed the oil once a year...

 

holy ****, 500k, if you can get anymore info on that, that would be cool, im shooting for around 150 on my 95 sohc
