Default Struts

Hi, I've got a 96 base neon that needs struts, front and rear. How do I tell if I need to replace the whole assembly or just the part that goes into the spring? Price is makes me need to know the difference. The whole assemble is about $176 each and the lower part of the assembly is about 70.00. any help on this one would be a big money saver for me.

Thanks
Gramo

You do not have to replace the strut and spring together. The coil spring just sets the ride height.

The whole assembly makes it quicker to swap them in. You don't have to rent a spring compressor and do all that stuff.
