Been done, bad idea. Mopar springs are only $60 per set or so. Of course, lowering the car on stock struts is a bad idea altogether...

Best of luck!

The best kits out there are the Eibach kits. There is much better suspension kits out there like the Mopar coil-overs, but the Eibachs are about $200 compared to the coil-overs at $1100. Price to performance Eibach is the best. Unless you are planning on doing some serious racing and know what your doing you will not get any better handling out of the coil-overs.

Eibachs haven't been considered a performance spring since Mopar started providing parts to us in '98 or so. Price to performance, Mopar springs ($60/pair) will tear the Eibachs apart hands down. I've had both, and it's like comparing a Festiva to a Jaguar S-Type R (having driven both). The Eibachs are progressive rate and don't ever get fully stiff enough to do any good. I had more body roll with them on brand new KYB GR-2's than I did with the stock Highline (softest made for the Neon) springs/struts.

Mopar High-rate springs on Koni struts should be considered the absolute minimum standard for a competitive setup. For the same money, you can get the Mopar X-Highs on Koni's and handle tons better, but the daily ride is a bit stiff for most folks.

For not much more money, you can get a complete coilover setup. By "complete", I mean the springs, struts, the works. Not the cheap coilover sleeve kits you see on ebay that won't even lower the car at all unless you cut off the spring perch on your struts... www.phantomhp.com is selling them for $950 for a complete set. These are height adjustable, compression/rebound adjustable (single ****), and camber adjustable (new camber plates up front). The spring rates are a little stiffer than the Mopar X-Highs, but you can order replacement springs a little softer if you need to, or a little stiffer if you are really serious. This is by far the best way to go if you actually want a performance setup.

Mopar coilovers are truly designed for competition use only. Run them on the street and hit a pothole, and you'll be replacing that corner... The price simply isn't worth it. And remember, that $1100 is only for a pair... not the full set. Unless they've drastically lowered the price in the last year.

There really is no cheap way to do it right. The stock struts (including KYB, Monroe, Gabriel, etc.) will not tolerate being lowered or a higher spring rate. They will fail much more quickly. I think my KYB's didn't even make it a year before I couldn't take it any more. The struts had bottomed out so much the bump stops were flattened down to 1/4" thick on the 3 that were left (right rear was gone completely).
