The 2nd gen Neons use ATF+4 the same fluid for auto trans Neons. I'm pretty sure if you went to NAPA or your favorite part store they will be able to check that for you.

1st gen 5 speed manuals call for syncromesh oil. I get mine at Autozone and its half the price of the Mopar brand.

Mopar Transaxle Lubricant PN 4874464 or http://www.pennzoil.com/other-car-pr...mission-fluid/

Ed Peters recommends the use of Mobil 1 High Mileage engine oil because of the high level of Zinc, or so I have been told. Mach 1 Terry (an employee of New Venture Gear) recommended Amsoil Synchromesh, which is rated for the neon manual transmission. Royal Purple Synchromesh is a good fluid to use. Atf+4 would be my last choice up there with using cooking oil. at+4 is the cheapest, and you get what you pay for.
