Default cylinder head problems....need help ASAP

the car is a 98 SOHC automatic. the problem is that the cam walking around in the head ate through the cam position sensor. my question is, how is the cam held in from moving laterally anyway? is there some way to shim it, or is the cam sensor intended on being ridden on by the cam? the car has 130k on it, and this never happened before....i need help ASAP though, i cant get to work.....thanks in advance

That does not sound good if it ate into the cam sensor. Are you sure that it is actually touching the cam?

The cam gear should stop it from moving towards the cam sensor. If the cam is moving around in the head, chances are the journals are shot, and the only fix is going to be a new head...

Best of luck!
