I was wondering what the stereo size is on a 97 Dodge neon, and if it's possible to even place a double din (if it is indeed a single), in without doing a lot of cutting and drilling?

 

It's a 1.5 din Stereo, which is still hard to come by in aftermarket. A Double din stereo could imply certain mods in your dashboard. Mostly messing up with it.

You can use a single din stereo for example with a Metra Roadworks dash & harness adapter and the cutting and drilling is not necesary; just twisting and isolating wires with plastic connectors or even heat-shrinkable tube instead of adhesive black tape is not a big deal.
