Default EGR solenoid

I was driving back from my girlfriend's the other day, and my radio* shut off on me for a second, then came back on... a little while later, I noticed that the check engine light was on (the ABS light comes on from time to time, so I had assumed it was that up until that point). I checked the codes and it gave me:

- battery disconnected within last 50 key-ons
- Open or shorted condition in EGR solenoid circuit

It was a pretty rainy/wet day, think there's a chance I just hit a puddle or something? The battery terminal looks alright, maybe a little bit of corrosion/white powder, but not like falling apart of anything... That, or if there is some sort of problem, does anybody have any suggestions/familiarity with messing around with the EGR setup? Also, does it pose a problem with driving/fuel mixture/gas mileage?

And last, but not least... what effect would putting the EGR blockoff kit have on performance and gas mileage? When I got the car, there was a line that had been disconnected, but it was put back on months and months ago (probably... mid to late May) without any problems since

(* The cd player is wired funny, I think it's hooked up just to the battery... when you shut off the car, it stays on for about 5 seconds, and if you start the engine after you've been sitting on the accessories, it doesn't do the normal off and back on, it just stays on... go Best Buy)

You most likely have a bad egr solinoid. Its located on the passenger sid fender about the middle. It only like $25 if I rember right. The block off is one way to go, just don't expect to pass emmisions.

What, if any, effect does the EGR blockoff have on the car? Right now, it's registered down here (where I live for school) to my friend's address (he helped me buy it), but we're putting it in my own name soon, when we transfer the title over/take him off... and my home address is in Butler County, PA - which is exempt from emissions testing (just the one-sticker inspection, which is why PA has two different ones)

The only effect it is going to have on the car is you may get a check engine light. The emmisions kit is useless as far as the car running and performance. You may gain a hp or 2.

You will have the CEL with the EGR system blocked off unless you use a Mopar or AFX PCM. No HP increase, no noticeable change in gas mileage, even on long freeway trips. Intake tract will be cleaner though...

best of luck!

Interesting development... as I was driving back from home tonight on the interstate, I noticed my car making an odd noise when I pushed the throttle down. When there was a line disconnected before, it made sort of a hissing noise when I'd push the pedal down past a certain point. It's kind of like that, like it's the same position of the throttle where it starts, though now it's more a putting sound. Just from how it sounds and how similar those two are in cause, I'm thinking it's the exhaust, and something's somehow come disconnected or something maybe... The only thing that worries me is that it doesn't really do it as much in neutral as it does when it's in gear... there's one small range in the throttle where it starts to, but then past that and before that point it doesn't - in gear, it's much more pronounced (any gear).

I'll have to pop the hood and check it out tomorrow... Nuisance... It wouldn't be so annoying if it didn't get louder, slightly higher pitched, and faster the higher I reved... maybe I just bumped a hose or something when I did my booger bushings, or maybe one of the lines was wrapped around the other side of the selector cable somehow.

I'm just a little worried about how that noise isn't so pronounced in neutral...

I would think that the reason it is more pronunced in gear is that there is a load on the motor, where as in neutral there is almost no load.
