Default Headlight Conversion Help

I just recently purchased a '98 Dodge Neon and the headlights were all whitened ad oxidized (as it seems many of the 1st gen's are). I was able to get a new pair of 2nd gen headlights for free and want to bolt those on to my car instead. All of the electrical connectors snap right in, and the headlight is a similar size. Going off a tempate I made, it looks like I would just need to trip the hood corners a bit, and shorten the horizontal bar that goes across the grill opening. Has anyone ever done this and can give a "how-to" or tips or anything? Anyone else with any ideas or advice feel free to chime in. Thanks in advance.

Okay, let me clear this up a little bit. My neon is a '98 neon. The new headlights were said to be for a '99 neon, but from pictures I have looked at online they are a 2000. The new ones are clear covers and not quite as round as the '98's. (sorry for any stupid or obvious comments, I am new to neons).

It's been done. Not only are you going to have to trim the hood, you'll have to trim the bumper down as well. Much cheaper and easier to go with aftermaket (DEPO, TYC) 1st gen headlights, in my opinion...

Best of luck!
