Default poor running

Chrysler neon, 1996 SOHC 2.0 16v

this fault is very subtle but bloody annoying:

popping back on over run
slightly missing under load.
general stumbling throughout all engine and ambient temperatures and engine loads.

i have changed virtually everything i can think of. Any ideas???

cheers

Dodge is notorious for not running any thing but stock plugs and wires. Take the stuff you bought back and get them from the dealer. Replace the fuel filter. I had the same problem with a 95.

Thanks for that, thats not the first time i have heard that. I think that is my next move despite already replacing them once, although they weren't genuine chrysler plugs and leads .I thought that the fuel filter was not replaced on the 96> models. I thought this strange as every car i have ever owned i always replaced the filter. Can you confirm that it should be changed then?

I have a 98 neon. I would check for codes 1st, if none, pull plug wires and see if any make a difference or not. could be a lot of things, from injectors to water in the fuel, to bad coil.

Some of the '96 cars have a fuel filter. When the Neon switched over to a plastic gas tank from aluminum, the big external filter was eliminated and replaced with atiny, lifetime unit on the regulator. If you have a filter, it will be behind a removeable plate just forward of the rear passenger tire. That is supposed ot be changed every 30k miles.

Best of luck!

Another idea might be some SeaFoam you can get it at autozone, advance auto, or the like. Works best when poured through the brake booster vaccuum line, and I swear this stuff seams like miracle juice for cars. When I did it in my neon, the smoke engulfed half of the parking lot at my old apartment building But it cleared up the miss under load for me.
