throttlebody spacer?
I've have seen these on a few after market web sites, and was woundering if they are really worth it. They claime to make up to 20hp and incress mpg, the idea sounds right but in all the builds i've seen here, i have not seen one spacer mentioned, so i have to ask," are the worth it or just a marketing ploy?"

Gimmick... mostly... 20 HP and any noticeable mpg increase is completely out of the question. A spacer will allow some of the turbulent flow to straighten out after it passes the butterfly... right before it hits a 90 degree bend into your plenum, and the metal in there isn't exactly smooth or round. But it does help some. Vitor ( www.neongoodies.com ) sells them, along with a plenum spacer (DOHC only). The combo was dynoed for a couple of ponies on his DOHC, less than 5 IIRC. Most of it I'm sure was from the larger plenum volume though (leaner fuel mixture than stock). A spacer alone would be worth 1 or 2 on a Neon at best. Money much better spent elsewhere...
Best of luck!
