I have a 95 dodge neon with a 3 speed transmission. My friend has a 2000 ford focus and thinks he can blow away my car. Both are stock but what can I put on my car to completly smoke him in a race. i have about 2-3Grand to spend and not sure where to start
Well you can start by checkin' out these two threads...

We have worked to bring a lot of the Neon parts to market, and pioneered a lot of the automatic parts.
The quickest way to beat your friend is to put on a Nitrous set up. On your first Neon SOHC Auto, we took a bone stock 95 and only put on a 75 shot, and ran 14.0. The car was 100% stock other than the Nitrous. We won the all FWD Mopar quick 8 at Cecil COunty with that car. The Nitrous Works kit on our website is the only kit specifically designed for the Neon. It is not a universal kit as many other companies make.
We also have a complete line of engine parts, and transmission parts for your car.
I would highly recommend that you pick up this http://www.howellautomotive.com/inde...OD&ProdID=1127

quickest way is add a turbo, which in most cases is better the nitrous because you'll have it all the time, and no need to go refill a bottle. so for those unexpected, civics-focus-cavaliers-ect you'll be able to have some fun with them. and of course do something with the exaust, pacesetter is probley the best bet for a header. if your friend with the focus as a manual he already has the upper hand. so you should deff do something with the trans(i'm not familiar with performance parts for the trans on an atx neon). but good luck with your race, and i deff hope you win. cant' let a mopar lose to a ford.
Nitrous is definitely the quick and "easy" way of getting power. I realize you can buy the basic kit, bolt it up, and run... but that's like buying a basic turbo and exhaust manifold for a couple hundred bucks and expecting everything to be fine.
In addition to most basic kits, I'd add a fuel pressure cutout (at the very least, and I'm pretty sure required at most tracks now), a bottle heater, and a bottle pressure gauge. A purge setup would be nice to have as well. 75 is a pretty big shot on a stock block. Maybe the gearing on the auto tranny makes it easier for the engine to handle, but most Neon guys I know don't run more than a 50 shot without a few trips to the dyno with some sort of fuel computer (S-AFC, for example) and/or timing retard unit (MSD DIS-2, for example). I'd have to do math to figure out if a better fuel pump (Walbro, also available from Howell Automotive) would be in order, but I'm not in the mood... pretty sure I'd spend the $100 though. All said and done, you can have a 200-225 HP car for not more than $1k into it. The "downside" is that it isn't on all the time... Big deal, that's what tracks are for anyways.
Best of luck!
