Default Stalling Problems

My Daughter has a 98 neon that she says just stalls out in the middle of an intersection. She says the car is still running and she pushes on the gas and nothing happens. Then the oil light and battery light come on and nothing. I guess she gets it started again later cause she some how gets home with it. Any thoughts out there???????? It is an automatic 4 cylinder.

hows the trans fluid? if it is low, fill er up, if it is still runnin and does not go anywhere, i would start there, it might end up being something simple like that, or the trans is starting to go. is there a check engine light on at all? if so, turn the car off completely, then turn the key on and off three times without starting it, on the third turn on, leave it on and count the times the check engine light comes on if any. it will do something like this...
blink, blink, pause, blink blink blink. that would indicate a codde 23 which is an o2 sensor or similar. if the oil light comes on at high revs, it might be the sending unit for the oil. located in the back of the engine under the exhaust manifold. just a strating point but worth a look.

I would do a tune up. Wires, plugs, air filter, some TB cleaner, and injector cleaner.
