Default radio problem

i still have the stock head unit in my neon, cassette player with a cd changer installed, i was working on putting alittle amp/speaker box in it i had laying around, i wasnt planning on keeping it in because im going to get a new head unit

anway, when i got it all wired up, but when i pluged to rear speakers into the amp i guess i had sometime wired backwards, the rear speakers made a nice loud annoying sound, the rear speakers and dome light went off at the same time, i checked all the fuses, under the dash and hood and they are all fine, everything still works, the light worked when i turned it on just not with the door, stereo still plays fine but only the front speakers

the strange thing is, i just went out to get something out of the car, opend the door and the dome light came on [sm=huh.gif] speakers still dont work, i pulled the plug from the back of the radio and checked the rear speaker wires with a light tester, it lights up but a few of them just barely light the tester, im going to check more tomorow when theres more light to see

any idea/suggestion?, like i said i plan on changing the oem anyway, just want to make sure it didnt hurt anything first

You have a wiring problem that could be anywhere along the area where you worked. Get a cheap meter and check out your connections....if any connection reads a lot different than the rest, chances are that's where your problem is......

thanks for the advice, i did find the problem, the radio was fried[:@] i did read the manual, thats how i knew which wires went to the rear speakers on the back of the radio, i checked them with an ohm meter and the readings were alot lower than the rest, but thats ok because i just put a pioneer radio in it and everything works fine now, btu i think the speakers in the doors are blown, i hear a tinny rattle sound in the speakers

what size will fit in the stock mounting holes? or what do i need to replace all the speakers, any recommendations? i have always spent my time/money on making things fast, never done the "show" part of things[:-]

the front door speakers are 6.5' round speakers

the rear speakers are 6x9.

The door speakers are a simple swap out, just remove the door panel and there they are. as for the rear speakers the best way is to pull the upper half of the back seat and then pull the carpet that sits above the speakers.

good luck

That back pice of carpet isnt hard to take out either. You really dont need to take out the top half of the back seat. Ive done it by just lifting up the carpet with a flathead screw driver and had no problems, You do have to be careful though because it's very easy to ruin that carpet. Have fun.
