Default dumby lights don't always come on when engine is started.

I have a 96 dodge neon highliner 4door sedan. i want to know causes the warning/dumby lights to not come all time when the engine is started. I do know that they will come on when i beat on dash. I beat dash sometimes because speedometer doesn't always work. i have no problem with speedometer working when the heater is on. 2 days ago the service engine light been staying on too. I got the car in a trade in for my ford f150 truck. I do know the 96 dodge neon highliner has been sitting awhile. Will no contact work if I soak the computer in this with it since it has been sitting? I had the car since thursday december 29th 2005. I put 125 miles on it since i got it too. What causes these problems and how do I fix them.
