Default AFTERMARKET TACHOMETER INSTALLATION

I know there are a few posts out there with this topic, but I just installed one, and everytime i looked it up on here, there was always incomplete information so here goes.:

I have a '99 neon, so this should work in any first gen pretty much.

the tach wire you want to look for is a grey wire with light blue stripe... it can be found coming off the computer in the engine bay... or if you pop off the dash, and instrument panel, it also runs to the plug on the right side, so you can splice it from either point. I got power from my defroster switch, because someone else had said so on this before, but they couldnt remember the color of the wire. the wire is white. if you wouldnt like to get power from here, you can always just use a test light, and test the pins of the connectors that plug into the instrument panel, and find one that lights up the light only when the ignition is on. The dimmer wire is an orange wire, which runs to the bottom right of the left instrument panel connector. and finally just ground it to whatever you can find... and if you cant find anyplace.. just ground it to the stereo ground wire. this doesnt result in any "half rpm's signal" or any of that, because the tach wire you're using is the one that would be going to the original tach. make sure your tach is set on 4 cyl.
