Default When is the starter finished?

At school, car started, ran good. Got home, let it sit for couple hours, go out to start it. Just a click. And the click comes from the starter solenoid.

Turn the key off, on to start again and just a click. All it gives me is one click and then the headlights shutoff when you do this if you keep it on for couple seconds.

Would this be a starter motor gone for a dump or solenoid, or how I can go about checking? The battery has 12.6 volts when i tested it, so I believe its fine. Solenoid obviously has power....

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the starter to me, had the same thing happen many times over the years on many differant cars. Heat builds up in the fields and causes the starter to draw way to much power which will draw the battery down killing the lights. Good way to kill the battery also if you have a weak cell.

Oh yeah, i thought that to a little bit, but it was cold as ice.

It turns out a nut was a bit lose and it was causing it to arc over a bolt on the solenoid, so I cleaned it up and tightned er up good and it was fine after that. Thanks again!

Loose wires will always do it.
