Default Yet another dumb quiestion!

My poor little neon is rattleing! I think its the lifters, its the nice ticking sound. Usually followed by what sounds like the crank protesting lol My quiestion is this.....Whats the better method of quieting the noise? Thicker oil or an engine treatment such as lucas? When I worked in an auto parts store my boss always told dodge owners not to use engine treatment, why I dont know, I just thought id ask the opinion of dodge owners. OH, and another quiestion, my gagues never worked so I followed the instructions on re flowing the solder, only to find that the board is cracked, I found a new set of gagues, but there from a 95 auto with a tach ( mines a 96 std without tach) will that work? I know, I know, lots of dumb quiestions from the new "guy" ! But, how will I learn if I dont ask!! Please bear with me!! Thanks

Yes the Gauges should work fine i changed mine and no problem, as for the lifter niose what grade gas you running?
When i first got my Neon from a buddy he had been running 87 octain in it and i found the the recommended octain is 92. I Started using the higher octain and the rattle stopped, hey what the heck give it a try.

If the ticking sound happens when you give it the gas to go up a hill, it could well be the gasoline octane. Forget the Lucas stuff, any good quality oil has all the additives in it that it needs. And don't be afraid to ask questions, that's what DF is all about (unlike some other forums!)....

What grade of oil is best? I replaced the gagues and it worked! I have a tach now! Yippee! The only downfall is that my car aquired over 100,000 kms in a matter of minutes lol I think ill keep the old gagues for proof of mileage.

Depends on the temp outside for the oil, I run 10-40 in the winter and 20-50 in the summer. I would definatlly keep the old gauges for proof, good idea.

Yet another dissapointment.......the gauges all seemed to work fine at first...... But, my gas gauge doesnt work again. Well, when I fill the car it goes right up to full, but, the gague drops about twice as fast as it should. It will show empty when theres about a half a tank left, any ideas on what might cause this?
